If Turkey felt layered and historic, Greece felt sunlit and open like the exhale of the journey.
Santorini: Black Sand & Caldera Views
Perivolos Beach was striking in a way that photos don’t fully capture. The sand, deep charcoal from volcanic lava, warmed quickly beneath the sun. The Aegean shimmered against it, bright and impossibly blue. I moved between the water and a shaded umbrella, letting the rhythm of the waves set the pace.
Later in Fira (the capital of Santorini), the contrast was dramatic — whitewashed buildings cascading along the edge of the caldera, narrow pathways curving toward cliffside views. The wind carried that distinct sea-salt softness, and everywhere you turned, there was a balcony, a blue dome, a photo waiting to happen.
Santorini is iconic. But standing there, looking out over that volcanic curve, then riding their cable car back down, it felt less like a postcard and more like perspective.
Rhodes: Quiet Restoration
Kallithea Springs was gentler. Stone archways framed turquoise water. Pebble mosaics lined the walkways. The bay was calm and cool enough to wake you up fully when you slipped in.
There was no rush here. Just sun loungers, quiet conversation, the occasional swim, and the kind of stillness that feels intentional. It was one of those stops where nothing dramatic happens, and that’s exactly why it stays with you.
Mykonos: Wandering Without Agenda
Mykonos was unstructured, and that made it feel freeing.
We wandered through whitewashed alleys so narrow you could brush both sides with your hands. Bougainvillea spilled bright pink against crisp white walls. The windmills stood watch above the water, steady and iconic.
We stopped for lunch simply because it looked inviting. Browsed small shops. Took photos without hurrying.
There’s something powerful about choosing not to optimize a day — just letting it unfold.
Crete: Hills, Wine & Scarlet Night
In Chania, the landscape shifted again.
We climbed into Jeeps and rode off-road across Vatolakkos Hill, the terrain turning rugged as we ascended. From 2,100 feet above sea level, the views stretched across vineyards and coastline — wide, green, expansive.
At Manousakis Winery, the experience felt intimate. A family-owned vineyard opening its doors to a small group. We wandered through the garden, toured the production space and cellar, and tasted five varieties paired with thoughtful bites. It was slow and communal — glasses clinking, stories shared, laughter easy.
That night was Scarlet Night — red outfits, music pulsing while Kathy Sledge of Sister Sledge performed, the deck alive with energy. There’s something about dancing at sea under an open sky that feels uninhibited. It was playful. It was vibrant. It felt like a celebration of the journey itself.
Life at Sea: The In-Between Moments
The sea days stitched everything together.
Loteria Gigante, a chaotic spin on bingo with tequila tasting along the way, had us laughing harder than expected. Morning Zumba on deck felt joyful and slightly unhinged in the best way. And Let’s Get Choco-Lit, the hands-on chocolate-making class, was sweet and messy and surprisingly therapeutic.
These weren’t just filler days. They were connection days.
✨ Reflections
Throughout the week, I reconnected with women I met during my first solo cruise and met new cruise friends along the way. Shared dinners. Excursion conversations. Running into each other between decks.
I sailed solo in my own cabin.
But I didn’t move through the week alone.
On my first solo cruise, I learned I could travel by myself.
On this one, I learned how beautiful it can be to choose togetherness, too.
By the time we returned to Athens on May 29, I felt expanded — not just geographically, but relationally.
The islands were stunning.
But the community? That’s what I carried home.
