Sound & Soul: The Places Behind the Music
Sometimes I remember the city because of the music.
When I think back on some of my favorite trips and seasons of life, I don't always remember them by the itinerary first.
Sometimes I remember the music.
A concert. A festival. A street musician. A crowded venue. A song that instantly takes me back to a specific place.
That's what inspired this series.
Sound & Soul isn't really about concerts — it's about the places connected to them.
Charlotte reminds me of more than one unforgettable night. Most recently, dancing to Pitbull & Lil Jon with my sisters was pure fun.
Also, seeing Beyoncé with my mom, sisters, and one of our longtime family friends turned into one of those shared memories that was about much more than the performance itself.
Ibiza will always remind me of seeing David Guetta at Hï Ibiza. The lights, the music, and the packed crowd created one of those experiences that feels uniquely tied to the island.
Charleston brings back memories of my time at the College of Charleston, including seeing DRAM perform during one of our spring campus festivals. It's one of those snapshots that instantly takes me back to college.
And then there's New Orleans, a city where music isn't just entertainment; it's part of everyday life. From concerts and festivals to wandering down Frenchmen Street, music always seemed to find me there. Living there for a few years gave me an appreciation for how deeply a city's culture can be shaped by its sound.
Looking back, I realized these weren't just concert memories.
They were travel memories.
Each place had its own soundtrack, and every trip seemed to collect another song, another artist, another moment worth remembering.
That's what Sound & Soul has become — a collection of places experienced through music.
Not every memory needs a long story.
Sometimes all it takes is a city, a song, and the feeling of being there.
